Teen who locked keys in his car charged with making false police report

By JOSÉ BORJÓN, The Brownsville Herald
July 27, 2007 - 1:50PM

He claimed a child was locked in a car, but what he really wanted police say was for someone to unlock his car for free.

Police say Charles Taylor Owen, 17, of Brownsville, called police late Thursday night.

When emergency medical responders arrived to the Sunrise Mall parking lot Owen told them "he just wanted his car to be opened,” police spokesman Eddie Garcia said.

“He told police that last time he was advised that police or fire would not respond to (an emergency) unless a child was locked inside a vehicle,” Garcia said.

Police officers arrested Owen on one count of making a false report.

A local locksmith told police he would have charged Owen about $25 to open his car.

Friday morning, he remained in custody at the Brownsville City Jail in lieu of a $4,000 bond.

Better call a locksmith next time

Reuters News Service - April 26, 2006

SAN FRANCISCO - Believing they had a botched burglary on their hands, police in Hayward, Calif., instead found a naked man wedged in a chimney, a police officer said Monday.

"He didn't have a stitch on," Lt. Gary Branson of the Hayward Police Department said, referring to Michael Urbano.

The 23-year-old man came home early Saturday morning and, finding himself locked out and without his keys, tried to enter the single-story house through its chimney.

"He told us he took off his clothes because as he was going down the chimney the clothes would rub up against it and slow him down," Branson said. "If it was skin on cement he felt he would go down easier."

Urbano's effort ended disastrously when a cable-television wire he used to lower himself snapped. He fell and was wedged in a section of the chimney tapering into the home's fireplace.

Man's Testicles Locked In Padlock For Two Weeks  - August 5, 2005

BRENTWOOD, N.H. -- Emergency workers helped a New Hampshire man out of a difficult situation over the weekend after a friend apparently locked a padlock around his testicles.

According to the Portsmouth Herald, police reported that the 39-year-old man was intoxicated when they arrived at the scene on July 30 at about 3:40 a.m. The man, who was not identified, told them that he had the padlock around his testicles for two weeks.

The man said that a friend put the lock on while he was drunk and passed out. When he woke up, the friend was gone.

"Never in my 13 years have I seen anything like this," Cpl. H.D. Wood told the Herald.

The man told police that he tried to remove the lock with a hacksaw because the key had broken off in the lock.

He was taken to Exeter Hospital, where a locksmith removed the padlock. He was treated and released, and the hospital said he had no lasting injury.

Police said that they did not know the motive for the incident.
